Head to Pooley Bridge (5.5 miles), at the northern end of Ullswater, to board one of the iconic steamers to explore the lake. The steamers stop at various jetties dotted around the lake, including the magnificent Aira Force Waterfall. A 20-mile, circular walk follows the shores of the lake, allowing you to explore the area on foot before hopping back on one of the steamers to complete your journey back to Pooley Bridge. Lowther Castle and Gardens (1 mile) makes a lovely day out, with fascinating ruins, attractive gardens, and a bird of prey centre with regular displays throughout the day.
